Lithuania Simonas Šipavičius - sax This is one of the intrigues of the festival. The Quartet was formed a year ago, gave several concerts. What was the intention of the musicians who are members of established groups – did they want to outrival Sheep Got Waxed, one of the most interesting experimental jazz trio ? Simonas Šipavičius is a member of Sheep Got Waxed formed in 2010. With this group he took part not only in Lithuanian jazz events, but also Cosmo Jazz (France) and Brighton (United Kingdom) jazz festivals; appeared in clubs in Moscow and Sankt Petersburg; wrote music for Vidas Bareikis’ theatre production Fight Club, which was nominated for Golden Stage Cross; recorded two albums. In 2011, Sheep Got Waxed won the Grand Prix at the Vilnius Jazz Young Power competition, and Simonas Šipavičius was voted the best instrumentalist of the Vilnius Jazz Young Power 2010. The saxophonist also plays in Vilnius Jazz Orchestra, has appeared in several chamber collectives, TV and art projects. With various groups he repeatedly performed in major jazz festivals in Lithuania such as Vilnius Jazz, Vilnius Mama Jazz, Birštonas Jazz, Klaipėda Castle Jazz as well as Le Festival des Transeuropeennes in France, and International Jazz and Blues Festival in Birmingham. Klaudijus Štuopinis graduated from the Klaipėda Conservatoire, studied at the Prince Clause Conservatoire of Groningen in the Netherlands. Currently, he studies at the Vilnius College. In 2013, he formed experimental jazz trio Dead fields of Clouds, with which he performed in Denmark and the Netherlands. Arman Isojan, a double bassist of Armenian heritage, studied the violin at the Stasys Šimkus Conservatoire in Klaipėda. Presently, he continues his education at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. The bassist started his career in Klaipėda – played in Klaipėda Music Theatre, Jurgis Barakauskas’ Dixieland. The musician has appeared in various projects and jazz sessions. He took part in Klaipėda Castle Jazz festival, Jazznica 2011 festival in Slovakia, international project Divercities Grenoble 2012 in France. Last year Arman Isojan earned a special prize at the Vilnius Jazz Young Power as a bassist of R.A.D.D. and Legentet, and as a member of R.A.D.D. claimed the Grand Prix. Domantas Razmus studied the saxophone in Music School in Pasvalys. Later he independently learned to play the percussion, became a member of several rock and pop groups. Currently, he studies the percussion at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. In 2012, the drummer was chosen to participate in international project Travelling Youth Orchestra, with it toured abroad. Last year as a member of R.A.D.D. claimed the Grand Prix at the Vilnius Jazz Young Power. Currently, Domantas Razmus works with various projects, takes part in open jazz sessions. |
