21st Century Quintet brings together young Lithuanian and Latvian jazz musicians. The group, which has been performing for a year and a half, has already tested itself on the stages of Vilnius Jazz, Vilnius Mama Jazz, Elektrėnai Jazz and Klaipėda Castle Jazz festivals, and has garnered recognition in Džiazo scena (Jazz Scene) competition.

The quintet’s peculiar and sincere music making has already claimed many hearts. Saxophonist David Avetisyan complements the quintet’s energy-pulsating compositions with motifs from Armenian folk music, transporting listeners to a world of exotic, unfamiliar culture.

In the finals of the competition, the ensemble will perform a collective composition On Ararat.

Davit Avetisyan is currently studying with professor Petras Vyšniauskas at the LAMT. The promising saxophonist has already gathered a considerable collection of awards. In 2017, he won the second prize in P. Vyšniauskas Competition; in 2018, the VJYP honoured him with the title Hope of the Competition; in last year’s VJYP he won the special Start FM prize. This year, Davit and his band became the winners of the competition organized by Kaunas Jazz.

The performer of Armenian roots draws inspiration from the folk music of his nation, the breath of which can be felt in his music.

Andrius Savčenko has been making music since the age of four. He graduated as a pianist and percussionist from Algirdas Music School in Vilnius and is currently in his second year at the LAMT. His eventful experience attests to wide range of his interests. Andrius participated in Druskomanijos’19 festival with the LAMT Big Band; performed in the YRÀ festival with the group Biplan; appeared in the theatrical show Fashion Alchemy as well as in projects of other creative fields.

Danielius Skeivelas graduated from the Vilnius Conservatory and is currently studying guitar at the Faculty of Arts and Creative Technologies of the University of Applied Sciences in Vilnius. He plays the most diverse music spanning from folklore to jazz. The guitarist has already tried his luck in the VJYP competition in 2018 with the band 13th grade, played at the Vilnius Mama Jazz festival, participated in Vladimir Chekasin’s project Ethnic Waves at the Birštonas Jazz festival. At this year’s VJYP competition, he was awarded a special prize for multi-instrumentalism.

Artūrs Duckis came to Lithuania to study from Latvia. He is a third-year student at the LAMT Jazz Department, combining his studies with work in a professional wind orchestra and as a concertmaster at the music school in Latvia. In Lithuania, the bassist has played with renowned jazz masters Kęstutis Vaiginis, Dmitry Golovanov, Arkady Gotesman and others.

Mihails Novikovs also came to Lithuania to study jazz drums at the LAMT from Latvia. He is a member of Daugavpils Big Band, has given concerts abroad with Lithuanian groups Subtilu-z and U-Elements.
