France Thierry Quénum - lecture Lecturer Thierry Quénum is a member of the author team of the French Jazz Academy and the Dictionary of Jazz published by Robert Laffont Publishing. He graduated in Modern Literature and English from the University of Paris Nanterre (formerly known as Paris X), and in the late 1980s began to express himself as a freelance journalist in the French and international media: in Jazz Magazine, Amazon.fr, Piano Magazine, the Italian Jazzit, the US web site Jazz.com, and has written articles for the French TGV Magazine, the Austrian Jazzzeit and the Norwegian Jazznytt. From 2006 to 2008, Quénum taught a course on listening to and writing about jazz at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris. His texts in French and English have been published by Universal Jazz, Dreyfus Jazz (France), Challenge Records (the Netherlands), Enja Records (Germany) and others, liner notes for jazz festivals such as Banlieues Bleues, Nancy Jazz Pulsations, Marly Jazz, Jazz à Vienne, Jazz in Marciac, as well as the Théâtre de la Ville, Cité de la Musique and the Luxembourg Philharmonic. He has been a jury member of the prestigious awards Django d’Or (France) and the European Jazz Prize (Austria). Quénum lectures on jazz in various European countries. As a lecturer, he has visited the Sienna Jazz festival in Italy, the Angra Jazz festival in Portugal, and in 2005 he was a guest speaker at Kaunas Jazz, where he presented a report on the evolution of European jazz. On 14 October, he will expand on this theme at the café of the Old Theatre of Vilnius. |
