USA Rež. Robert Mugge
The legendary Sun Ra brought cosmic visions, mythology, and unlimited freedom of improvisation into jazz, making his work one of the most mysterious and influential in 20th-century music. Between 1978 and 1980, Robert Mugge filmed this visionary in Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C. The film features public and private performances, poetry readings, rehearsals, interviews, and abundant improvisations. It is a true fiesta for Sun Ra fans – a rare chance to experience his cosmic world up close. Sun Ra claimed he came from Saturn, and for him music was a cosmic mission – to liberate humanity through sound, improvisation, and community spirit. Interestingly, the Sun Ra Arkestra has also performed at Vilnius Jazz Festival – their first appearance in Lithuania was in 2019, led by long-time collaborator Marshall Allen. |
