UK Rež. Oliver Murray
Oliver Murray’s documentary explores the global musical legacy built by Ronnie Scott and his world-famous jazz club. Featuring unseen archival footage, exclusive live performances that feel like you’re in the front row, and interviews with legends like Quincy Jones and Sonny Rollins, the film reveals the 60-year history of the club, its transformation into an institution, and the inner struggles of its founder. Ronnie Scott, a renowned tenor saxophonist, battled depression throughout his life and died by suicide in 1996, leaving the jazz world without a cherished leader. Yet his legacy endures – the club remains one of the most important centers of the jazz scene. Founded in London’s Soho district with fellow musician and business partner Peter King, the club was inspired by the vibrant post-war jazz clubs of New York’s 52nd Street. Since then, it has hosted stars like Chet Baker, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Van Morrison, Buddy Rich, Nina Simone, Jimi Hendrix (who played his last show there), and even Lady Gaga. |
