Lithuania Paulius Balčytis – tb, keyb
This unconventional ensemble was formed just a few months ago. Its members are musicians of the same generation, each with experience in many musical genres. For the competition final, they will perform an original composition titled Greener Fence in Vabalninkas by M. Mileris and J. Bagdonavičius, which was awarded the VJYP Prize. Paulius Balčytis learned the basics of trombone at the National M.K. Čiurlionis School of Arts, later continuing his studies at the Vilnius Conservatory. He actively performs both in Lithuania and abroad, as a soloist and with various ensembles of contemporary, classical, improvised, and jazz music. In addition to playing trombone, he also plays piano and composes music for different instrumental combinations. Giorgi Morchiladze, originally from Georgia, graduated from the Kaunas J. Gruodis Conservatory with a focus on trombone. He is currently studying at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (LAMT) and plays in the academy’s orchestra, as well as in Rakija Klezmer Band, Fortunati Band, and the Vilnius Rural Folk Ensemble. Jogaila Bagdonavičius, the guitarist, is a graduate of the Kaunas J. Gruodis Conservatory and currently studies jazz at Vilnius College. Together with fellow students, he has participated in the Kaunas Jazz and Birštonas Jazz festivals. Augustas Vaitiekūnas, double bassist, graduated from the Vilnius Conservatory and is currently studying at Vilnius College. Motiejus Mileris, the drummer, also studies jazz at Vilnius College and is a graduate of the Vilnius Conservatory. He performs with Rakija Klezmer Band, Fortunati Band, the Nojo Airlines orchestra, the group Robaksai, and several other ensembles. |
